ArticlesWeigh down: isn't broccoli righteous and haagen-dazs a sin? I want you to know that I love God with all my heart and that I have gotten to know Him so much better over the years. I have also read a lot of God's recorded ideas in the Bible. I have observed the world He made and watched His animals eat. I have watched children eat. God's eating plan is plastered everywhere, and we have just missed it. He has put food down on earth for us to enjoy, and He did not accidentally leave the Basic Four food groups out of the Bible. He did not put food down here to torture us. Also, it is more His idea not to worry about what we eat or drink. If God bothers to feed the little birds or if He bothers to clothe the flowers in the field, which live only for a couple of weeks and then are gone, will He not feed and clothe you—a human being, made in His likeness and possessing a life span of eternity? Matthew 6:25 recorded Jesus' words this way: " "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?'" So God does not want us to worry excessively about getting enough food to eat. He does not want us to worry about the food's content. In this passage, you recall, Jesus declared all foods clean. God gave food rules to the Israelites, but all along He wanted the heart or the core of man's character to be pure and loving and devoted only to Him. He sent Jesus, the exact representation of God's being, the radiance of God's glory, to show us that God wants us to work on the heart's being pure, rather than work on making the environment pure. So we can conclude that physical food should not be the focus, but rather spiritual food should be the food for the heart. And we should likewise be praying for our spiritual concerns and spiritually clogged arteries instead of just praying for people with physical ailments. It turns out that most of us like to be around personalities who love us, who think we are "it" or something special. When we seek to know God, we quickly discover His deep affection for us, how very special we are to Him. It then becomes very easy—and easier as time goes by—to make God the object of our own affection. I am personally crazy about Him; I cannot get Him off my mind. As your heart changes from a love for food to a love for God, you will find another amazing transformation happening. You will not be consumed with food content, its nutritional value, or whether it is good or bad for you. The color green will no longer seem virtuous, and your obsessive-compulsive worry of whether something is "organic," "natural," or "chemical-free" will evaporate. A small amount of food will do nicely. And best of all, your hunger is satisfied—all of your hunger. *23\237\2* |
